You can reach the city of Salzburg quickly and easily from Ammerhauser. The local train connects Anthering with Salzburg's Old Town every 30 minutes – daily from early morning until late evening. Anthering train station is about a ten-minute walk away.

The city of Salzburg – and especially its historic Old Town – is one of the most beautiful places in Europe. Salzburg's Old Town is located directly on the Salzach river. To this day, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart attracts many tourists to his birthplace. Many sights, such as Mozart's Birthplace, commemorate the extraordinary composer.

Salzburg's Old Town itself is a true architectural treasure trove with its many building styles. Those who stroll through the numerous narrow alleys (such as Getreidegasse, Judengasse, Goldgasse, Kaigasse, as well as Linzergasse and Steingasse) will find Romanesque, Gothic, Renaissance, and Baroque structures, along with the elegant neoclassical townhouses of the monarchy, all within a small area. There is hardly an era that hasn't left its mark in Salzburg.
Since the Old Town is both a pedestrian zone and relatively small, it's perfectly suited for walking and strolling – you can comfortably walk from Nonntal in the south to Müllnerhügel in the north in a good 40 minutes. The city's most famous squares are Residenzplatz, Alter Markt, Universitätsplatz, and Mozartplatz with the monument to the genius loci.

There is certainly no shortage of impressive buildings: Among the most striking are undoubtedly Hohensalzburg Fortress, Salzburg Cathedral, the Residenz, St. Peter's Abbey with its impressive cemetery, the Franciscan Church, the University Church, and – not to forget – the Festival District with the Large Festival Hall, the Haus für Mozart, and the Felsenreitschule.
On the right bank of the Salzach, you shouldn't miss Mirabell Palace with its romantic Mirabell Gardens (incidentally, one of the most popular photo motifs). Just outside the city, you'll also find Hellbrunn Palace with its trick fountains and zoo.
The impressive HANGAR-7, a museum for airplanes and modern art, as well as a restaurant and café-bar, is also extremely popular.

If you're planning a shopping trip in Salzburg, the Salzburg Old Town is the perfect place. There are many small shops across various price categories, inviting you to stroll around at your leisure. If the weather isn't great, the two large shopping centers, "Europark" and "Designer Outlet Salzburg," are excellent alternatives. "Europark" is easily accessible via the West Autobahn (A1), exit Kleßheim. "Designer Outlet Salzburg" can also be reached via the West Autobahn (A1), exit Flughafen.
If you prefer to drive into the city center, there are several paid parking garages (e.g., Altstadt-Garage, Raiffeisen-Garage). You can validate your parking ticket at a shop or café in the Old Town to pay a reduced parking fee. (This only applies to the Altstadt-Garage)
