Things to do near the Hotel Ammerhauser in Anthering
Athletic holidaymakers will find everything they crave on an activity holiday at the Hotel Ammerhauser.
Whether you go running in the Antheringer Au nature preserve, Nordic walking amid breathtaking views in the rolling alpine foothills, swimming in the outdoor pool next door, or sailing, surfing and swimming in one of the area’s many lakes: nothing stands between you and the many activities offered in this area around the Hotel Ammerhauser! Cyclists can look forward to many beautiful bike trips, as well as trans-regional bike trails (Mozart Cycle Path, Salzkammergut Bike Trail, etc.) which pass very near to our hotel in Salzburger Land. Golfers will find a true golf paradise close to our hotel: 15 golf courses, all of which can be reached in less than an hour by car, are just waiting for you to tee off!
Bicycles, E-bikes, Nordic walking sticks and snowshoes are available at the hotel free of charge for our guests!
Families will love the new Anthering Swing Trail, an easy family hiking trail with fun swings along the way. The Haunsberg panoramic trail is lovely for leisurely hikes and has interesting information boards and fun activity stations for children. This gentle, well-graded trail offers great views of Salzburg’s lake district, the Salzburg basin, the city of Salzburg and the Bavarian alpine foothills. Starting at the Gasthof Kaiserbuche, this hike takes approximately 3 hours.
After your hike, head back to our hotel restaurant or restaurant patio for some refreshments and something to eat (our kitchen is open all-day Sunday!).

From the Hotel Ammerhauser in Anthering, the Salzburg city centre can be easily reached in just minutes thanks to the bus or regional train.
Thanks to our central location, many famous and especially attractive sights and nearby excursion destinations can be easily reached. The Salzkammergut, Lake Koenigssee, the Eisriesenwelt ice caves, Hallein Salt Mines, Hohenwerfen Fortress and Gut Aiderbichl animal sanctuary are quite close to our hotel in Anthering. Plus, the Grossglockner Mountain and alpine road, Krimml waterfalls, and Kaprun alpine reservoirs are easy and exciting day trips.

Gut Aiderbichl animal sanctuary
Gut Aiderbichl is a sanctuary for animals rescued from bad situations and has become very famous thanks to celebrity visits and media reports. The Gut Aiderbichl animal sanctuary is open daily and hosts special tours and events all year.
On the "Silent Night" Trail
One of the most famous Salzburg sightseeing highlights is the Silent Night Chapel in Oberndorf. Additional popular sights are the Franz Xaver Gruber Museum in Arnsdorf and the Maria Bühel pilgrimage church.
Maria Plain Basilica
With its beautiful design and decorations, this baroque pilgrimage destination holds one of Austria’s most significant collections of treasures. Numerous chapels surround the basilica. A walk on the Plainberg Mountain along the stations of the cross and to the church is a true treat, especially on a day with clear visibility.
Lake Koenigssee & St Bartholomä Church
Located in neighbouring Bavaria, St Bartholomä Church is the emblem of Lake Koenigssee and can be reached only by boat. The world-famous pilgrimage church was first built in the 12th century and is located on a picturesque peninsula. A special attraction is the "Lake Koenigssee echo"!
The Hohenwerfen Fortress is definitely worth a trip. This fortress is more than 900 years old and sits perched over the Tennengebirge & Hagengebirge Mountains. This fortress is home to many interesting attractions such as an armament exhibition, knight shop, bird of prey demonstration, falconry centre and much more.
Eisriesenwelt Ice Caves in Werfen
The largest ice cave on earth. Discover the earth’s most powerful ice sculptures in the Eisriesenwelt’s giant caves. The tour through the caves lasts about 1 hour and you will be rewarded for your hard work on a trip through this unique system of caves.
Grossglockner and high alpine road
Get just a little closer to heaven. The most famous alpine road ends right in front of the highlight of the Hohe Tauern National Park: Austria’s highest mountain and largest glacier, the Grossglockner (3798 m). Please note the road’s opening hours!
